BAD

nail habits

REMOVING NAIL ENHANCEMENTS WITHOUT THE AID OF A PROFESSIONAL Avoid peeling, ripping, over-filing and flaking-off glued product. RISKS OF DAMAGES: - Nail breakage - Peeling/thinning of nail plate (long-term damage and prolonged recovery) IMPORTANCE OF PROFESSIONAL REMOVALS: The bond between your natural nail and the nail enhancement is chemical and must be broken down correctly. Safe removal requires controlled debulking (by filing) AND a chemical agent such as acetone or gel-deconstructing solutions. Improper removal techniques are very likely to cause long-term damage to the natural plate, as the enhancement is not safely broken down before removal.

KEEPING YOUR SET FOR 4+ WEEKS (FRESH SETS & REFILLS) POTENTIAL RISKS: - Lifting - Moisture entrapment - Bacterial growth and discolouration - Cracking/Breakage HOW YOUR NAILS AGE: After 2 - 4 weeks the structure of the set will age. You may experience lifting (even if it is invisible to the natural eye). If moisture is trapped under these openings, an optimal environment is created for bacterial infection such as pseudomonas (greenies), a green-yellowish discolouration that cannot be removed and must be grown out. Greenies worsen with time, if not dealt with. Greenies can also be caused by glueing down lifted nails! After 3 – 4 weeks, the nail’s stress point shifts due to new growth. The further down the stress point shifts, the more susceptible your nails become to cracking or breaking.

REFILL AFTER 3-4 WEEKS (ONCE ONLY) A refill entails the procedure of debulking (filing) an old set, reshaping, restructuring and, sealing it with a new design. Refills rebalance the nail structure by repositioning the stress point, ensuring pressure is correctly distributed and not placed at the point where the new growth ends. Frequent back-to-back soak-offs can weaken and dry the nails. Refills maintain the existing base and refresh the upper layers; refills are beneficial because they reduce repeated chemical exposure and excessive filing on the natural nail.

DEVELOPING A CONSISTENT NAIL ROUTINE For clients aiming to grow their natural nails we recommend developing a routine with a trusted technician who: - will work with a medium that is most effective for the growth and health of your nails - will provide a consistent and non-damaging soak-off process (key to retaining length) Please keep in mind that despite these variables, the innate strength and fragility of your nails will ultimately influence how successful your nail growth journey will be.
